Quilt Show by the Black Hills Quilters Guild

June 6-8, 2019

The 2019 BHQG Quilt Show will be held on June 6-8 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in beautiful downtown Rapid City. There are many changes for the show this year; please review the dates and times carefully.

Deadline for registering quilts - Tuesday, May 7 at Midnight
Quilt Check-in - Wednesday, June 5 from 8:00 AM - Noon
Show Open for Preview - Thursday, June 6 from 5:00-8:00 PM
Show Open - .Friday, June 7 from 9:00 AM-6:00 PM
Quilt Show Reception - Friday, June 7 from 6:00-8:30 PM, Alpine Room
Show Open - Saturday, June 8 from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM.
Pick up quilts - Saturday, June 8 at 5:00 PM

Admission to the show is $6 per day or $10 for a 3-day pass. Members can enter for free but are encouraged to volunteer for the many jobs of running the quilt show.

Registration deadline is May 7. Please read all rules before you register; some category definitions have changed. Please type with correct spelling, punctuation and capitalization so our committee does not have to revise your entry. Quilts will be checked in from 8:00 AM - Noon on June 5 and must be picked up at approximately 5:00 PM on June 8.

You should receive an email confirmation after you register your quilt online. Tags to be attached to your quilt will be distributed at guild meetings from May 14-June 4 or you may pick them up when you check-in your quilt. If you find errors on your tag, please Contact Us prior to the show.


Quilts

Along with over 400 competition quilts, visitors will see several quilt displays. Caring Heart Quilts and Thinking of You quilts will be hung in a special display. Quilts made in a class will be displayed in the Inspiration Studio. A Quilt Show favorite - the Guild Challenge Quilts - will be displayed and can be voted on by all attendees. Other Special Exhibits may be announced as more information is available. 

We are excited to have a new judge this year, Pamela Day Walsh from Golden, CO. Pamela is a retired Colorado dentist and Certified Quilt Judge through the National Association of Certified Quilt Judges. She attends and judges numerous national, state and local quilt shows annually. She is the Colorado Quilting Council Lead Quilt Judge and the past Chairperson of the Colorado Quilting Council Competition Committee.

There will be a Trunk Show at the Reception on Friday, June 7, presented by Rebecca Smith.


Silent Auction for Hospice of the Black Hills

The BHQG will again sponsor a Silent Auction of Small Quilted Objects to supporting Hospice of the Black Hills. In the last fourteen years, we have raised $33,421 for this cause. Items will be available for you to bid on; bidding will close near the end of the show on Saturday.

Inspiration Studio

New this year is the Inspiration Studio which is replacing the Demo Room on the west side of the hall. This will have classes, quilt displays and information about the Quilting in the Hills Retreat. When the class schedule has been finalized, it will be posted here.

The quilt display for the Inspiration Studio will be quilts made during a class (retreat or quilt shop classes). To register your quilt for this display, choose Special Exhibit, Inspriation Studio for the category. Please put the instructor's name, name of the class and date, if known in the Artist's Statement box.


Open Sewing for Project Warmth

There will be an Open Sew area. This gives people a chance to sit and sew for a few minutes or a few hours. Machines will be provided by Fabric Junction, fabric and helpers will be provided by the BHQG. Last year six quilts were completed during the show which were used for Project Warmth, the charity outreach division of the BHQG. Project Warmth will also have some quilts for sell in the Open Sew area. 


Black Hills Quilt Show Reception 2019

After a long day at the Quilt Show on Friday, June 7, a fun evening awaits at the quilt show reception. Head upstairs from the show to the Alpine Room. Doors open to a cash bar at 6:00 PM followed by the buffet about 6:30.

Winners of all quilt categories will be announced and the 2020 Raffle Quilt will be unveiled. There will be a Trunk Show presented by Rebecca Smith.

The buffet will feature: Caprese Salad Skewers, Rainbow Fruit Skewers, Strawberry & Spinach Crostini, Pepperonata & Borsin Crostini, Crab & Avocado Crostini, Cucumber & Dill Canapes, Bacon Wrapped Asparagus, Spinach & Artichoke Stuffed Mushrooms, Beef Tenderloin Sliders, Chicken Salad on Hawaiian Rolls, and Raspberry Lemon Drop & Chocolate Trilogy Dessert Tarts. Coffee, Iced Tea, and Water are included. Cost is $20 per person.
